Downloaded Chainer Demo version 1.03 from the web and installed it. I played with it in standalone mode and determined that it was a way cool tool. I hosted it as a VSTi and VST effect in SE, it worked pretty good. I have determined that the plug will host Emulator X. This could turn into something positive.

OK, tried to use it with FXT, and it locked the server up. It looks like the Chainer VST is trying to create the message box stating that it is in demo mode, but it can't get it instantiated from our server app. Well, this app is worth the $60.00 US asking price even if I can't use it with FXT simply for not having to load SE when I want to d!ck around with a synth, so I will buy it. Waiting on code.

Happy Birthday to Me Let's see if the fates smile upon me on this day. I have the codes for Chainer, and I grabbed the download of Energy XT.

@&*! Chainer is still locking up FXT server, and I can't get a message in the debug log to let me know what is going on. Talk about frustration. Must.... persevere.... to.... achieve.... success.... engines.... failing.... must.... get.... pizza....

Aha, I just moved the 2 chainer .dll's to a separate folder that is not a subfolder of my default VST folder and configured FXT server to only look at this folder. Holy 5ths of Vodka batman, it works.

Now, create a separate folder for Energy XT's dlls and configure FXT server to scan both of these folders.

Survey says..... SUCCESS

OK, now I am going to configure FXT to scan my default VST folder as well. Can we handle it???? Aha, success.

So, as it stands now, I have....

C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Chainer
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\EnergyXT

Let's see if we can get it working consistently. Rebooted the FXT server box and host, launched FXT server application, launched Install effects program.

Survey says..... SUCCESS

I launched SX 3 on the host, created a new project to test this, and I was able to load EnergyXT[LAN] and Chainer[LAN] as VSTi and play a little tune. (I loaded Moog Modular V into Chainer and minimoog V into EnergyXT). This is a hardcore kind of sweet.

OK, I am feeling brave. I am feeling like I need to push the envelope here before I watch the hockey game tonight. Let's see if I can load Emulator X (a known incompatible plugin) into EnergyXT and play me a tune.

Oooh, it loaded.
Oooh, it let me select a program.
Oooh, When I assigned the EnergyXT[LAN] to a MIDI track in SX, nothing crashed on the server.
Oooh, I am playing a tune using a teleported version of Emulator X.

Survey says..... SUCCESS

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it looks like I am going to get the Flyers and Bruins tonight (can't watch the Red Wings every night I guess), so I will end this evening on a positive.

I need to learn the Chainer and EnergyXT programs now. I also need to buy the license for EnergyXT.

This is a pretty amazing program. I snagged the manual, and I am getting around the program.

I am still having luck remoting Emulator X through EnergyXT.

OK, I have been working this program, and it appears that it gets along just dandy with FXT. I did a whole session with Emulator X, Arturia Arp 2600 V, Arturia Moog Modular V, and a couple of effects, and it worked great.

We'll pick back up on this Monday.

A little later than Monday, but I just didn't see posting a bunch of 'still learning EnergyXT messages'.

The config that I am using now, and I think it works great thus far, is configuring FXT server only to scan these two folders

C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Chainer
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\EnergyXT

Then through one or the other, I host the server effects / instruments. This works way cool.

Also, the locking up that I experienced when I first started this gig was due to something between the VSampler demo and another entitiy in the mix (FXT server, Chainer, EnergyXT, some other VST/VSTi, not really sure right now; another problem for another time). I removed the VSampler demo from the folders FXT scanned, and the problem went away.

Energy XT 2 currently does not support being hosted as a VST & VSTi. Jorgen has stated that it will be implemented in the future. For the time being, use version 1.4.
